Write a project card before you begin

Use the same yarn and hook for both mittens. If you stop between them, keep your gauge sample and notes with the first mitten. Changing tension over time can change the size even when the stitch counts match.

- Make the first mitten to a clear measurement checkpoint.
- Check its size before completing the cuff.
- Make the second to the same checkpoint and compare.

Fit and finishing are separate checks
Compare length and width with the intended measurement. Check that the opening is not constricting, seams are not bulky and ends are secure. An age label alone does not establish the correct fit for a particular baby.
