This adorable crochet elephant is the perfect size for little hands to hold. With big floppy ears, a curly trunk, and a sweet face, this amigurumi will become baby’s favorite companion. At about 8 inches tall, it’s cuddly but not too big.
Materials
- Main yarn: Worsted weight (#4) in gray — about 120 yards
- Accent yarn: Small amount in pink (inner ears) and white (eyes)
- Hook: 3.5mm (E/4) — smaller than usual for tight stitches

Important: Tight Stitches!

Body
Round 1: Magic ring, 6 SC. (6)
Round 2: 2 SC in each. (12)
Round 3: *SC, inc* around. (18)
Round 4: *SC in 2, inc* around. (24)
Round 5: *SC in 3, inc* around. (30)
Rounds 6-15: SC around. (30) — stuff firmly as you go
Round 16: *SC in 3, dec* around. (24)
Round 17: *SC in 2, dec* around. (18)
Continue decreasing, stuff fully before closing.
Head
Same as body but slightly larger — increase to 36 stitches. Work even for 10 rounds, then decrease. Attach safety eyes between rounds 9-10, about 6 stitches apart.
Ears (Make 2)
Make 2 gray circles (increase to 24 sts) and 2 pink circles (increase to 18 sts). Place pink on gray, fold in half, sew to head.
Trunk
Start with 6 SC in magic ring. Work 15 rounds without increasing for a tube shape. Curve slightly when sewing to face. Add a curl at the tip by sewing the end upward.
Legs (Make 4)
Magic ring, 6 SC. Increase to 12. Work 6 rounds even. Stuff firmly, sew to body.
Tail
Chain 12, SC in each chain back. Sew to back of body. Unravel the end for a fluffy tassel.
Assembly
- Sew head to body
- Attach ears to sides of head
- Sew trunk to center of face
- Attach legs evenly on bottom
- Add tail at the back
- Embroider eyebrows and mouth with black yarn
Safety
- For babies under 3: embroider eyes instead of safety eyes
- Pull-test all parts after assembly
- Stuff firmly so nothing can be pulled loose
- Use machine-washable yarn and stuffing
